Girls Child Project
No one is more vulnerable than an uneducated Girl Child living in poverty. She is at risk for dropping out of school early, sexual violated, forced into child marriage, early pregnancy, complications during childbirth, and contracting HIV/AIDS. If she survives, she will raise her children in poverty and they, too, will face the same obstacles. Specifically, in eastern parts of Uganda, up to 54 percent of girls in Eastern Uganda will drop out of school before finishing the first education cycle of primary 1 to primary 7, for a number of reasons, girls will miss up to five days of school per month when they are menstruating. That adds up to 50 days of school missed (nearly 25%) per year. High school fees, poor school facilities, Working conditions in rural schools, Parent attitudes, especially about girls, Poor distribution of schools and distance to the nearest school, Illiterate parents
